Joanna Ruszala, soprano, is a talented young artist who has performed extensively on operatic and concert stages of Europe and the United States. Her operatic repertoire includes Verdi’s Violetta, Puccini’s Mimi, Gounod’s Marguerite and Mozart’s Donna Anna among many others. Her work as a concert singer and recitalist has taken her to Italy, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Bulgaria, the United States and her native Poland.

As a contest singer, Ms. Ruszala has garnered many prestigious prizes in both Europe and the United States including the 8th International Ada Sari Competition of Vocal Art in Nowy Sacz (Poland), where she won Second Prize as well as a Special Prize for “Outstanding Soprano.” She also won Polish Vocal Competitions in Duszniki Zdrój and Katowice, where she received a special Prize from the Artistic Director of Silesian Philharmonic. Her American awards include the Bains Scholarship for Outstanding Opera Singers from Indiana University and Kosciuszko Foundation Scholarship in New York.

Ms. Ruszala holds a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance from the Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland, where she studied with H. Januszewska’s class and later served as a member of the voice faculty. She also received a Performer Diploma in Voice Performance from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University where she studied under the tutelage of internationally acclaimed sopranos Carol Vaness and Teresa Kubiak.
